Windows XP Find the MAC Address Find the Host Name Setup DHCP
To find the MAC address of a Window's XP machine click Start/Run/ and type in cmd. Press enter. When the command-line window opens type in getmac. If multiple MAC addresses are listed or the getmac command doesn't work, use the command ipconfig/all.
The MAC address will be listed on the left side of the screen under Physical Address. Write down the address. Close the window when finished. To find the host name of a Windows machine click Start/Run and type in cmd. Press enter. When the command-line window opens type in hostname with no spaces. See the previous example. Close the window when finished. To set up DHCP click Start/Settings/Network Connections.
Right-click the Local Area Connection icon and choose Properties. Use the up/down arrow keys to select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) entry or click it one time to highlight the entry. Click the Properties button. The following dialog box will open.
Click the Obtain an IP address automatically radio button. Made sure the Obtain DNS server address automatically radio button is selected. Be sure to click OK before closing the window. |
